Thermostat says heat on but furnace not running

This has happened four times where I come home to a house <55F and the thermostat is set to 65 F and says HEAT ON but the furnace is not running. The thermostat is programmed to 69 F when I am home and 65 F when I am at work. Sometimes I temporarily override the program and bump the temp up a couple degrees and the thermostat …
