I checked the compression, it's got 109/110 psi, but no spark on the lower cylinder. I am learning repair as I go and worked with my Dad to try to diagnose this issue. We disassembled the lower unit and didn't find anything glaringly wrong with the water pump or impeller but it still won't autoprime.
Re: Gamefisher 15hp - 1989 I would see if you can find a manual for them as this will give you the compression they should be, if they have been sitting for ages and hardly started, it could be rings sticking. So your model would either be 225.581501 or 225.581491. If they are all 95psi with no variance with the others, it might still run fine.
The model covered is 225.587151 (15HP) from 1986. There are no originals of these manuals left, but this is the next best thing - a truly excellent reproduction. There is a nut and rod (pinion?) attached above the flywheel which the starter fits over. There are roller bearings inside the starter assembly which seem to fit over the rod/pinion/flywheel. If you have the water level to the vent screw on the lower unit, then you are probably uncovering the exhaust port and making it easier for the engine to run, no back pressure from the exhaust being submerged. This will fit a 15 hp gamefisher model number 217.586350 serial number 18362437 sears boat motor. This motor was all white. It may fit a 7.5 or 9.9 motor but I am not 100% certain. This motor blew a head gasket and I could not get the head bolts off without them breaking so I am parting the motor out.
